Saturday: World Town Crier Tournament final
Round three, the final, is in Exchange Square at Chester Northgate. There are two sessions, 11am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 3.30pm, according to Chester Northgate’s event page. Combined scores from all three rounds decide the champion, announced at the end of the day.
Visit Chester and Cheshire says 25 criers are competing from England, the Channel Islands, Australia, Canada, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and the USA. Watching is free.
It also runs a crier’s code trail around the city centre. Maps are at the Chester Visitor Information Centre, and a correct code word enters a draw for a £50 Chester Gift Card.
Saturday and Sunday: Chester Tatt Fest
The tattoo convention runs on Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 6pm, at St Mary’s Hill, CH1 2DW. Dates, times and the address are on the organiser’s own site, which also sells tickets.

Friday night in Northwich: a fundraiser
Colleagues of Cody Dobbs, the 22-year-old chef who died after the A41 motorbike crash at Backford, are holding a fundraising night at the Clock Tower, Chester Way, Northwich, CW9 5NF, from 8.30pm on Friday. There will be a band.
His family’s statement, published by Cheshire Police, says the money will go to intensive care at the Countess of Chester and a local cat sanctuary. Our report on the crash has the police appeal details.
What it means for you
If you want one free thing to do on Saturday, the town crier final is it. Go for the afternoon session if you want to be there when the champion is named.
If you are driving in, Exchange Square is in the Northgate development. Our parking in Chester page lists the car parks and their charges, and our roadworks page has this week’s closures.
More ideas for the rest of the season are on our things to do in Chester page.
